Located to the West of Center City, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, University City is home to many of the colleges of Philadelphia. University City is located on the West side of the Schuylkill River that runs through Philadelphia. University City is home to everything from education to entertainment, restaurants to museums, science to art galleries, and much more!

Colleges and Universities

The University of Pennsylvania is located in the heart of University City and is only a short walk away from Spruce Hill Manor.

Drexel University is only a few short blocks away from Spruce Hill Manor and is right next to the 30th Street Amtrak Station.

The Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College is located within ten blocks of Spruce Hill Manor and specializes in hospitality and culinary arts.



University City has several attractions for entertainment and education, most of which are located within walking distance of Spruce Hill Manor. Among the local attractions are: the Bartram's Gardens, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Please Touch Museum, and Philadelphia Zoo.

The Philadelphia Museum of Art hosts a weekly Pay-What-You-Wish Night at the museum on Wednesday nights from 5:00-8:45 p.m. where visitors chose what they wish, or can afford, to pay to enter the museum. On these Wednesday nights, the museum hosts several varying events, like yoga classes, art classes, or chef demonstrations, throughout the museum. The Free Library of Philadelphia launched its new Culinary Literacy Center and state-of-the-art demonstration kitchen, sponsored by Cancer Treatment Centers of America, on June 2, 2014 at the Parkway Central Library with the help of two of Philadelphia’s most acclaimed chefs, Jose Garces and Marc Vetri. This center was made to teach the different aspects of cooking and nutrition to the people of Philadelphia.

University City Restaurants

Twice a year, Philadelphia hosts Restaurant Week in the city with over 100 restaurants participating to celebrate great food. Participating restaurants offer a three-course lunch for $20 per person and a three-course dinner for $35 per person.
